Aloha HBEA members,
First off, I want to echo the words of our outgoing President, Cheryl Fujii, and say that our WBEA/HBEA 2016 Conference on February 12-15, 2016, at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa was a resounding success! Cheryl has already recognized the members who contributed to that success, and there were many.
Now that the once a decade WBEA event is in the past, we can focus on the future. If you missed HBEA’s Spring Conference, you missed a really great educational opportunity. The conference was titled “A Whole New World, The Yin and Yang of Technology,” and it focused new classroom delivery techniques using technology (yang) and the cyber threat (yin).
You do not want to miss our Fall Conference to be held on Friday, October 21, 2016, 8 a.m. – 12 noon, at Leeward Community College. The focus of the conference will be retirement planning for educators, something many of us need to know more about. Registration will be up soon at http://hbea.org/.
The theme of the upcoming year will be building our membership base. Our plan is to offer value added services to our current and new members by focusing on the skills educators will need to prosper in the new millennial classroom environment. A major issue for educators today is how to incorporate technology into their classes so that it is more than just entertainment. The emphasis will be forward-looking planning so Hawaii’s business educators will be on the cutting edge of technological advances in the new digital age.
Lastly, I want to thank my predecessor, Cheryl Fujii for the wonderful job she did in leading our organization during the past year.
Have a great fall season and beyond!
